On February 6, 2023, a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern and central Turkey and northern and western Syria. It was followed by a 7.7 magnitude earthquake nine hours later. The quakes caused widespread damage and tens of thousands of fatalities, becoming the deadliest earthquake disaster in Turkey since 1939 and in Syria since 1822.
At ICOM, we share our deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragedy and stand in support with our Turkish agency, Teşkilat. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.
