Some brands don’t need reinventing. They need someone to help more people discover what’s already there.
That’s the challenge Home Run Inn Pizza handed to quench, the food and beverage specialist agency and wholly-owned subsidiary of Pavone Group, our ICOM member from Philadelphia. Following a competitive review, Home Run Inn named quench its agency of record (AOR) — the agency that will lead its ongoing marketing and brand strategy. Over the course of nearly 80 years, the Chicago tavern grew into one of the country’s most recognised frozen pizza brands. Along the way, it built something rare: a loyal following that, in quench’s view, is still largely untapped.
“Home Run Inn is one of those rare brands that feels both iconic and still full of untapped potential. The people who know it love it,” said quench CEO Michael Pavone. “Our job is to help more consumers discover what has made the brand special for generations by bringing that authentic restaurant experience to more moments and more tables.”
One of quench’s first assignments will be building an integrated brand platform that draws a clearer line between Home Run Inn’s restaurant roots and its growing retail presence — work spanning brand strategy, creative development, communications planning and retail activation.
For Dan Costello, CEO of Home Run Inn Pizza, the assignment isn’t about reinvention so much as translation.
“You don’t stay relevant for nearly 80 years by standing still. Consumer expectations change, and successful brands have to evolve with them,” Costello said.
The challenge isn’t changing who we are. It’s making sure more people experience what has made this brand special for generations. quench gets that, and we’re thrilled to have them on board as our partner in this stage of evolution.
It’s a familiar tension for heritage brands — how to grow reach without diluting the thing that made people love you in the first place. quench’s pitch centers on its “sofa-to-shelf” approach, built specifically to meet consumers wherever they discover, engage with and buy food and beverage brands, whether that’s a tavern booth or a grocery freezer aisle.
quench’s win is also a compelling example of the value independent agency groups can create. As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pavone Group, quench operates with the deep category focus of a boutique agency — food and beverage, full stop — while drawing on the shared resources and infrastructure of a larger, multi-agency group. It’s the kind of structure that lets a specialist agency compete for national agency of record assignments without losing the sharpness that made it a specialist in the first place.
That combination of focused expertise, real infrastructure and independent ownership is exactly the kind of story ICOM likes to tell. Independent doesn’t mean isolated. Sometimes it means being small enough to stay sharp and connected enough to punch well above your weight.
