View AllBronze in Cannes: Artificial Group’s Young Talent Makes Hungary Proud
Nine years is a long time to wait for a podium finish, but that’s exactly what Máté Tóth of Hungarian ICOM member agency Artificial Group and his creative partner Enikő Lénárd delivered in June, taking home a Bronze Lion in the Film category at the Cannes Young Lions competition.
It’s Hungary’s first medal at the international Young Lions Finals since 2017. The Young Lions competition is one of the toughest proving grounds in the industry for creative talent under 30, testing not just ideas but the ability to execute them under real pressure.
The duo earned their place at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity by first winning Hungary’s national Young Cannes Lions competition, run by the Hungarian Association of Communication Agencies (MAKSZ). From there, they went head-to-head with the world’s sharpest young creatives from 22–26 June.
The brief was as tight as they come: 48 hours to conceive, shoot, and edit a one-minute film — this year, in service of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation’s mission to prevent drowning and promote swimming education. No home turf, no familiar crew, just a live brief and a deadline.
“One of the biggest challenges was finding the right location in a city we didn’t know at all — somewhere that was not only visually compelling but also perfectly captured the essence of our creative idea,” said Máté, Senior Creative at Artificial Group.
Working under such a tight deadline, in an unfamiliar environment, while addressing such an important issue was both incredibly demanding and highly inspiring.
That pressure paid off. The film earned its Bronze in front of an international jury, and Máté says the moment it was announced is one he won’t forget.
“When our work was first announced on the shortlist, I had a feeling we might actually make the podium. But hearing our names called for third place — and then watching our film together with hundreds of creatives in the Claude Debussy Theatre — was simply indescribable,” he added.
The biggest takeaway for me is realizing that, as creatives, our ideas and campaigns can have a genuine impact on both society and individuals.
It’s shaping up to be a strong year for Artificial Group on the awards circuit. The agency’s ARtmemes campaign for Yettel — already recognised with Silver at both the Art Directors Club of Europe and the Golden Drum — has now picked up a Bronze at the New York Festivals Advertising Awards in the Digital/Mobile: Best Use – Humor category. A well-earned congratulations to Máté and the whole Artificial Group team!
